On June 8th, World Oceans Day, the Surfrider crew headed out to Lone Cone Hostel on Meares Island to clean their front beach! This year’s World Oceans Day theme was preventing plastic pollution and finding solutions to the plastics crisis. Doing cleanups in remote areas demonstrates the need for this focus and for all of us to rise above our addiction to single use plastics. Ten volunteers came out to lend a hand, as well as students from the Nanaimo Secondary School! Thanks to Lone Cone Hostel for providing boats, and Jamie’s Whaling Station for sponsoring the Love Your Beach Clean Program! Photos courtesy of Aline Carrier!
