George Fraser was a botanist who settled in Ucluelet, who was famous for his specialization in rhododendrons, and near his death in 1944 who stated “I don’t know where I am going to end up, but it doesn’t matter, I’ve had my heaven here on earth.” George Fraser Island lies just off the coast of Ucluelet and is certainly a paradise in the Pacific Rim, it also happens to get hit really hard by marine debris. Our group of 7 traversed the island on July 19th 2017, but this one day was not enough. We returned on July 27th to finish the task, circumnavigating the island and collecting as we went. A total of 15 super sacs were collected over a total of 22 hours!
