Surfrider Pacific Rim’s second annual Short Film Fest took place at the atmospheric Tofino Botanical Gardens on Friday, October 6th. Under the full moon, and smashing glasses most whimsical white tent, everyone got cozy with their blankets and cocoa to watch surf and environmental films from near and far. Mike and Alle Band played live for the audience to surf films before the festival began, with the sun setting and the twinkling decorative lights of the garden coming into view.

The first half of the programme was made by local filmmakers, and covered subjects around mining, marine protected areas, and marine debris. Mike and Alle Band also played during the intermission to a George Melies video from 1903, The Underwater Fairy Kingdom, made before sound was invented, when musicians would play live along to the images.

The second half of the programme was international films from all over the world – including Panama, Canary Islands, Norway, Cape Town, Australia, and Indonesia – among many others. Films from different cultures expand our own field of view, and inspire how we relate to the world around us. For anyone who wasn’t able to make it to the film festival, or wants to share the programme, here is the lineup!
