Pacific Rim Polar Dip; 2024

On January the 1st, Surfrider Pacific Rim hosted the chapters annual Polar Dip event at Mackenzie Beach. On the chilly Monday morning, over one hundred attendees joined together at Mackenzie Beach for various festivities, including the opportunity to jump into the frigid Pacific Rim ocean to celebrate the new year! The event included a drop-in beach clean initiative, post-swim fire pit warm-up zones and warm drinks and snacks supplied generously by Mackenzie Beach Resort.

A significant amount of coastal debris was collected and sorted at the event by participating volunteers. Including 190 pieces of plastic, 59 cigarette butts and 76 beverage cans. Additionally, a pile of firework waste was collected and responsibly disposed of.

The chapter would like to thank Mackenzie Beach Resort for supplying the Polar Dip event with many needed necessities, as well as the amazing chapter volunteers who participated and helped out with operations!

Moreover, congratulations Samuel Karlsson for winning the Polar Dip swim challenge within the chilly waters of Tofino.
