Surfrider Youth Club Florencia bay Beach Cleanup 2023

Ucluelet Secondary School’s Surfrider Youth Club, a part of our Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) program, once again organized and facilitated this years Florencia Bay beach cleanup, overseen by our YES program committee.

Canada’s first Surfrider Youth Club was established in the Pacific Rim in 2018. Since then, our network has organizing youth-led beach cleans, waste-reduction initiatives, fundraising activities, as well as built community outreach and awareness.

Hosted on November 24th, Florencia Bay beach was chosen as the location from the club for the year-end clean. In review, the clean was an astounding success. A total of 25 volunteers were in attendance and over 3 kilometres of coastline was covered during the sunny afternoon.

  • 31 beverage containers

  • 28 shotgun shells

  • 5 dog waste bags

  • 1 metal barrel

  • 3.8kg of foam floats

  • 8kg of plastic packaging

Surfrider Pacific Rim would additionally like to extend our thanks to The Break Cafe & Shipwreck Pizza for providing food, coffee and snacks on the 24th.
