B.C. Provincial Single-Use Plastics Engagement Survey Deadline: July 5th, 2022

The B.C. government has released a feedback survey on proposed regulations on single-use plastics outlined in the CleanBC Single-Use Plastics Intentions Paper. The survey seeks your input on “other actions to reduce plastic waste, address materials that are difficult to reuse or recycle, and keep what we do use working for us for longer”. The proposed waste prevention regulation marks a noticeable step forward in reducing single-use plastic pollution in British Columbia (B.C.), however, it only targets a small portion of plastics contributing to the plastics crisis.

In completing the survey there is a brief feedback section in which you can prompt the B.C. government to consider regulations against other problematic plastics. Surfrider Canada has written a brief response that you can copy and paste into this section for your convenience, seen posted below:

To begin seriously tackling the plastics crisis the Province should consider further restrictions on additional single-use plastics, such as Other Flexible Plastic Packaging (OFPP), which currently has no recycling solution in B.C. It is also fundamental that the Province address other categories of plastic waste, such as fishing and aquaculture gear, plastic pre-production pellets (i.e. nurdles) and cigarette butts.

For those that have the time and capacity, your own insight on the plastics crisis and supporting reusables is also extremely valuable and what the government is wanting to hear from the public.
