Take Back the Tap!
Help us eliminate single-use plastic water bottles in Pacific Rim.
Surfrider Pacific Rim's new campaign, Take Back the Tap, has the end goal of banning all single-use plastic water bottles 1L and under from the Pacific Rim!
We will achieve this by supporting businesses to eliminate plastic water bottles, and, instead, offer water from the tap, fountain, and/or dispenser. We are challenging all businesses to get on board and join the campaign to eliminate single-use plastic bottles by March 22nd, 2022. Surfrider will then lobby local Districts to add this item to the Single-Use Plastic Regulation. Surfrider, the business community, and fellow partners will also point visitors towards refilling reusable bottles at new water dispensers installed throughout Tofino and Ucluelet.
CELEBRATE CLEAN, FRESH, SAFE, RAINFOREST WATER
Here on the west coast, we are fortunate enough to have access to an amazing freshwater source from the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations Tribal Park on wanačis ḥiłhuuʔis.
With this purified rainforest water, there is no need to be purchasing plastic water bottles for daily use and waste. We invite the west coast, and all of BC and beyond to be part of celebrating fresh, delicious, safe drinking water that we are so fortunate to have free access to.
Plastic water pollution facts
Many water bottle companies use water sources from some of the most drought ridden places in the West, such as California to package and sell to places where there is already ample water supply (like Tofino and Ucluelet!)
The plastic water bottle industry uses 17 million barrels of oil every year in the United States to make the bottles, which must then be transported and refrigerated using additional fossil fuels
60-70% of plastic water bottles sold do not get recycled and ultimately end up end up in landfills and waterways
One plastic water bottle can break down into enough small pieces to be present on every mile of every beach in the world

Refill your reusable bottle with tap water, let businesses know you support the Take Back the Tap Campaign. If you're a business, join the campaign and eliminate all single-use plastic water bottles. Together, we can work to ban this unnecessary item and inspire other locales to follow suit.
